Getting started
Hushmere runs on Android 8.0 or newer. No account or sign-in is needed, and the current sound library works without an internet connection.
- Open the app and choose Sleep, Relax, Meditate, or Focus.
- Tap the play button beside a sound. Start at a low volume and adjust it until it feels comfortable.
- Tap the mini player at the bottom to open the full player and its controls.
- If you want playback to end automatically, set a sleep timer while the sound is playing.
Opening the app does not start playback automatically. A remembered sound is only a selection until you press play.
Sleep
Choose Rain on Leaves for soft rainfall or Gentle Shore for unhurried waves. Set a timer if you would like the sound to fade out while you settle down.
Soundscapes repeat, so you do not need to restart a short recording. Listen at a comfortable volume; the app does not promise to treat insomnia or any other condition.
Relax
Woodland Stream and Forest Morning bring a little outdoor atmosphere to a break. Use them for a quiet pause, a slow morning, or winding down after work.
Meditate
Koshi Air offers light chimes. Souls provides a quiet backdrop for meditation. Choose whichever feels less distracting to you; neither requires a guided session.
For a short visual exercise, open the breathing guide from Home. The sound controls on that page let you choose background audio or leave the exercise silent.
Focus
Quiet Rain provides an even background. Quiet Café adds a gentle room murmur. Pick a comfortable level that stays behind what you are doing.
Playback
Use play and pause in the mini player or full player. The moving audio bars indicate active playback; they are a visual status indicator, not a measurement of the recording.
Audio can continue when you switch apps or turn off the screen. Android media controls let you pause or resume without returning to Hushmere. Calls, other audio, or an output-device disconnection may interrupt playback.
Stop on the full player ends the current listening session and clears its timer. The elapsed listening time describes the session, not the length of the audio file.
Set a sleep timer
- Start a sound, then tap the timer icon.
- Choose 15, 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes, or enter a custom duration from 1 to 180 minutes.
- Use Add 15 minutes to extend an active timer, up to 180 minutes.
- To cancel it, reopen the timer and choose Turn off timer.
Settings lets you choose a 15, 30, or 60-second final fade. When the timer finishes, playback pauses and the audio is reset to the beginning.
A timer keeps counting down while playback is paused. Turn it off if you do not want it to expire during a break. A new timer can only be started while audio is playing.
Quick Start sessions and saved rituals can start playback with a timer already selected. Normal sound playback does not enable a new timer automatically.
Take a breathing break
Open Breathe with Hushmere on Home, choose 1, 3, or 5 minutes, and tap Begin breathing. The visual rhythm is 4 seconds in, a gentle 2-second rest, and 6 seconds out.
Use the guide only at a pace that feels comfortable. You do not need to force a breath or hold it. Stop if you feel dizzy, breathless, or uncomfortable.
Pause freezes the exercise. Resume continues it, and Reset returns it to the beginning. Leaving the app or locking the screen pauses the visual guide; background sound may continue separately.
Reduce motion keeps the visual presentation still while preserving phase labels and the timer.
Favorites and personal rituals
Tap a sound's heart to add it to Favorites. Tap again to remove it. A brief message confirms the change.
Save a ritual from the player to keep a sound, an optional timer, and a fade duration together. Give it a name, then return to it from Home. Rituals can be edited, renamed, or deleted.
Favorites and rituals are stored only on your phone. There is no cloud sync or account backup; clearing app storage or uninstalling removes them.
Comfort and local privacy
- Reduce motion: use still backgrounds, a static playback indicator, and instant transitions.
- Remember last sound: restore the last selection without automatically playing it.
- Clear recently played: remove recent history without deleting favorites or rituals.
- Text size: Hushmere follows your Android font-size setting.
